Hunger Task Force Mission and Volunteering/Giving Opportunities: February 2010

We collected over 180 jars of Peanut Butter in December and over 150 cans of Tuna Fish in January…and now we begin February with CANNED VEGETABLES. The Bimah looks great with all of the food that is being donated. Thank you to everyone for making it such a success.

Volunteering/Giving Opportunities:

1) February's food of the month: Canned Vegetables. Please bring in your cans (all kinds are welcome), and we'll display them on the Bemah before sending them off to Sova.

2. University Synagogue chosen as BIG SUNDAY hub location for 2010! BIG SUNDAY, the largest regional community service event in America, has selected our Synagogue to be a hub location - a center for a variety of exciting and rewarding service activities.  So mark your calendars for Sunday morning, May 2nd, and prepare to participate.  Details to follow! Get involved with our Big Sunday efforts! Contact Rabbi Simonds rabbisimonds@unisyn.org or Bennett Tramer, the chair of our Big Sunday program.

3. Sign up to be a Food of the Month Driver.  For those who cannot bring their food to the synagogue, we will drive to their home and pick it up for them.  You can do this alone, with a friend, spouse or children.  Get everyone involved as you turn your car into a vehicle in the fight to end hunger. To be a volunteer contact Rabbi Simonds rabbisimonds@unisyn.org

University Synagogue Garden

We planted we sowed...we hammered and we nailed...and now we have our very own garden! We planted Radish, Beets, Peas and Squash.

We have a beautiful garden which will help feed the needy around Los Angeles and allow us to give back to the earth.

Now that we have planted we need your help.  We need people to lend a hand to tend the garden (water the plants).  Please contact Rabbi Joel Simonds at rabbisimonds@unisyn.org and let him know which day you would like to water the garden (anyone can volunteer; individuals, children or entire families).  We look forward to growing our garden with you!
