Sisterhood is a vibrant
part of our Synagogue community. We are an active
group of women of all ages. We meet regularly
and often: to celebrate together the Jewish holidays;
to explore ethnic dining, Jewish history and Jewish
literature; to have fun together through jewelry
design, scrap booking, knitting, mah-jongg, movies,
and book clubs.
As Sisterhood women, we join together to serve
our congregation and community, to learn and share,
and to celebrate Jewish living, our families and
ourselves. Through Sisterhood, we enhance the
quality and ideals of contemporary Jewish living
to ensure the future of progressive Judaism.
For our congregation, Sisterhood purchases and
presents gifts for our Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, underwrites
Red Cross training for staff, maintains a scholarship
program for the “March of the Living”
and supports special projects for the Religious
School, ECLC and the High Holy days.
For the worldwide community, we donate funds to
many worthwhile causes, including World Union
for Progressive Judaism, Jewish Braille Institute,
Jewish World Watch for Sudan relief, Israel, disaster
relief, JWB Jewish Chaplains Council, New Directions,
and The David Project.
As a member of
Women
of Reform Judaism (WRJ), our Sisterhood is
one of 550 local Sisterhoods in the United States
and Canada with a total membership of over 75,000
women. Through the WRJ, we serve Jewish and humanitarian
causes worldwide and advocate for pressing social
policy concerns including civil rights, women’s
issues, public education, health care and social
welfare. WRJ’s involvement is grounded in
our identity as Jewish women committed to Jewish
values.
Sisterhood engages every constituency of our synagogue
women, from young to old, in Sisterhood life,
and is an enthusiastic advocate for the WRJ motto
Stronger together.
