Let us lean into God’s call...- Rabbi Joel Simonds
My mentor Rabbi Richard Levy z”l used to teach us to read and listen to the news as holy moments, opportunities in which God calls to us, asking for our help in repairing the brokenness in this world. While we stay at home for the safety of our families and our community, it becomes harder to recognize the pain and destruction outside of our walls. But in this moment in time, God is calling us to hear the pain of others and respond. God is asking us to turn on the news, to go on social media and, instead of yelling or debating, to sift through the noise, to find the pain and respond with a gentle soul and an open heart. God calls to us every day, giving us opportunities to help renew creation, but often we ignore the call and turn away. Let us lean into God’s call during this next month, let us turn in and let us listen and let us respond, “Hineni, Here I am, ready to help.”
